WCC MEN'S SOCCER CONTINUES LEAGUE PLAY
West Coast Conference men's soccer teams begin the third week of league play this weekend. San Diego leads the WCC with a 3-0-0 record in WCC matches.

WCC Player of the Week: LMU's Wilkie Johnson Earns Weekly Honor
LMU junior defender Wilkie Johnson has been recognized for his outstanding contributions on both offense and defense over the weekend as he earned his first career WCC Player of the Week honor. Johnson was a key factor in helping the Lions post a 1-0 shutout over Portland. He then headed home the game-winning goal in Loyola Marymount's 2-1 overtime win versus Gonzaga. It marked his first goal of the season and fifth of his career to help the Lions move above .500 for the first time this season.

  • The Bulldogs lost 3-0 at San Diego and 2-1 in overtime at Loyola Marymount in a pair of WCC matches last week.

  • Gonzaga's 2-1 overtime defeat at Loyola Marymount was the fourth overtime match of the season for the Bulldogs who are now 2-1-1 in extra sessions this season.

  • Junior MF Tye Perdido's fifth goal of the season last Sunday against Loyola Marymount was his single-season high, surpassing the four goals he scored as a freshman in 2006. He now has 11 career goals and 4 career assists for 26 points, tops among active players.

  • Perdido shares the team points lead this season with junior MF Ben Funkhouser with 10 each.

  • Gonzaga hosts Saint Mary's (10/17) in its lone match this week.

  • The Lions defeated Portland, 1-0, before edging Gonzaga, 2-1, in overtime.

  • LMU's four victories tops its total from all of last season while the back-to-back home victories are the first since beating Cal Baptist and Gonzaga September 17-22, 2006. The last time LMU won consecutive home conference games was October 1-3, 2004, when it also beat Gonzaga and Portland.

  • LMU junior defender Wilkie Johnson was recognized for his outstanding contributions on both offense and defense over the weekend as he earned his first career WCC Player of the Week honor. The Lions won both their games on the weekend, thanks to Johnson's defense against Portland and his game-winning goal against Gonzaga.

  • The Pilots dropped a pair of WCC matches last week, falling to LMU, 1-0, before suffering a 3-2 setback versus San Diego.

  • Senior MF Leland Wright and junior MF Collen Warner tallied goals for the Pilots in their setback versus San Diego. The goals were the second of the season for Wright and Warner.

  • Warner assisted on Wright's strike, giving him a WCC-leading five assists on the season.

  • Sophomore F/MF Frankie Lopez has been impressive so far this season, leading the team and the conference with seven goals and 15 points. He is also one of seven Pilots to hand out at least one assist this fall, while his 12 shots on-goal are tied for the team-high.

  • The Pilots host Seattle (10/17) in non-conference action before resuming conference play by hosting Saint Mary's (10/19).

  • Saint Mary's defeated San Francisco, 3-1, before earning a 1-1 draw against Santa Clara.

  • The Gaels currently sit in second place in the WCC standings with a 2-1-1 record.

  • Freshman D Tom Mohoric scored his first two collegiate goals in the 3-1 road win over USF. On the weekend, Mohoric scored two goals, on three shots, tallying four points, of the three shots two were on goal for a .667 shots on goal percentage.

  • Junior GK Jason Badger has been on a tear the last four games. The keeper has notched a 2-1-1 record, tallying 19 saves in four games, and allowing just four goals for a 0.95 goal against average. In the win over LMU (10/5), Badger set a career high with eight saves.

  • Saint Mary's travels to Gonzaga (10/17) and Portland (10/19) this weekend.

  • The Toreros defeated Gonzaga, 3-0, and Portland, 3-2, to run their winning streak to three consecutive matches and their unbeaten streak to four straight.

  • The Toreros have out-scored their opponents 7-2 during their winning streak.

  • San Diego is led by junior forward Andrew Feld, who has tallied three goals and two assists for eight points, and recorded seven shots on goal for a .350 SOG percentage.

  • Senior GK Kelin Briones collected fives saves against Gonzaga for his second clean sheet of the season. Briones is now tied for third in the WCC in shutouts (2), while ranking fifth in the conference in saves (30).

  • The Toreros play at San Francisco (10/17) and Santa Clara (10/19) this weekend.

  • San Francisco dropped a 3-1 decision to Bay Area rival Saint Mary's last week.

  • Junior F Conor Chinn scored the Dons' lone goal in their setback versus the Gaels. Chinn now leads the Dons and is tied for second in the conference with five goals. It also marked Chinn's third straight game with a scoring strike. Chinn also leads the WCC in game-winning goals with three.

  • The three goals the Gaels scored against the Dons was the most any team has scored against USF this season.

  • Senior GK Jeremy Coupe is tied for the WCC lead with three shutouts.

  • The Dons host San Diego (10/17) and Loyola Marymount (10/19) this weekend.

  • The Broncos earned a 1-1 draw against Bay Area rival Saint Mary's in their lone match last week.

  • Sophomore MF Jalil Anibaba scored the lone goal for the Broncos. It was his first of the season and second of his career.

  • Sophomore F Kellen Wantulok, senior F Brian Martin, junior MF Jeff Cosgriff, and freshman F Connor Mitchell are tied for the team lead with two goals each.

  • Cosgriff, Mitchell and freshman MF Brandon Zimmerman have been integral in setting up several of the Broncos goals this season. All three are tied for first on the team with two assists each.

  • The Broncos host Loyola Marymount (10/17) and San Diego (10/19) this weekend.
