WCC men's soccer teams continue conference play this week. Opening the fourth week of conference action is San Diego playing at Loyola Marymount Thursday, while Gonzaga hosts Portland and San Francisco crosses the Bay to take on Santa Clara on Friday. On Sunday, San Diego and San Francisco return the favor as the Toreros host the Lions and the Dons host the Broncos.

WCC Player of the Week: Santa Clara's Jeff Cosgriff Earns Weekly Honor
Jeff Cosgriff earned his first West Coast Conference accolade on Monday as he was named the WCC's men's soccer Player of the Week. Cosgriff scored the lone goal to lift the Broncos to a 1-0 victory over the Toreros of San Diego. It was SCU's first conference win of the season and USD's first league loss of the year. Cosgriff leads Santa Clara with eight points and three goals. He has also dished out two assists.

  • In their lone match of the week, the Bulldogs took on Saint Mary's at home ending in a 1-1 draw.

  • Gonzaga's 1-1 overtime game against Saint Mary's was the fifth overtime match of the season for the Bulldogs who are now 2-1-2 in extra sessions this season.

  • Junior MF Tye Perdido's sixth goal of the season against Saint Mary's was his single-season high, surpassing the four goals he scored as a freshman in 2006. He now has 12 career goals and 4 career assists for 28 points, tops among active players.

  • Perdido now leads the team in points this season with 12 and is tied for second in the league.

  • Gonzaga hosts Portland (10/24) in its lone match this week.

    WCC Record: 2-2-1
  • The Lions tied Santa Clara, 2-2, before losing at San Francisco, 1-0 in its two matches last week.

  • LMU's four victories tops its total from all of last season while the back-to-back home victories are the first since beating Cal Baptist and Gonzaga September 17-22, 2006. The last time LMU won consecutive home conference games was October 1-3, 2004, when it also beat Gonzaga and Portland.

  • With the tie against Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount set a school record for most tie games in a season. The Lions also tied a school record for number of overtime games in a season after playing their seventh of the season against Santa Clara. In the match Raphael Baca scored the second goal and his third for the season, beating his previous career high of two in a season.

  • The Lions play a home and home series with San Diego (10/23 and 10/26) this week.

  • The Pilots split their games last week, losing to Seattle, 1-0, beofre defeating Saint Mary's at home, 3-0.

  • Junior MF Collen Warner tallied a goal and an assist in the victory over Saint Mary's, giving him three goals for the year.

  • Sophomore F/MF Lopez has been impressive so far this season, leading the team and the conference with nine goals and 19 points. He is also one of eight Pilots to hand out at least one assist this fall, while his 16 shots on-goal are a team-high.

  • The Pilots travel to play Northwest rival Gonzaga (10/24) in their lone match this week.

    WCC Record: 2-2-2
  • Saint Mary's tied Gonzaga, 1-1, before losing at Portland, 3-0, in its two matches last week.

  • The Gaels currently sit in third place in the WCC standings with a 2-2-2 record.

  • In the tie with Gonzaga, the Gaels came back from a 1-0 deficit on a goal from Yousef Samy, who scored his fourth goal of the season and was assisted by Joel Fumia, who tallied his third assist of the season, which ties for the team lead.

  • Junior GK Jason Badger tallied 10 saves over last weekend, giving him 44 for the season. Badger is currently tied for second in the conference in total saves. In the win over LMU (10/5), Badger set a career high with eight saves.
  • Saint Mary's takes this week off, before heading down to face Loyola Marymount (10/31).

    Overall Record: 4-6-3
    WCC Record: 4-1-0
  • The Toreros defeated San Francisco, 2-1, before losing at Santa Clara, 1-0. The loss to Santa Clara was the first conference loss of the season for San Diego.

  • The Toreros have out-scored their opponents 9-4 during conference play.

  • San Diego is led by junior forward Andrew Feld, who has tallied four goals and two assists for 10 points. Feld also scored his first game-winner of the season with his goal against San Francisco.

  • Senior GK Kelin Briones collected seven saves against San Francisco and five against Santa Clara, giving him 42 for the year. Briones is fourth in the league in saves.

  • The Toreros play a home and home series against Loyola Marymount (10/23 and 10/26).

  • San Francisco lost to San Diego, 2-1, before defeating Loyola Marymount, 1-0, at home last week.

  • Junior F Conor Chinn scored the Dons' lone goal in their setback versus the Toreros. Chinn now leads the Dons and is tied for second in the conference with six goals. It also marked Chinn's fourth straight game with a scoring strike. Chinn also leads the WCC in game-winning goals with three.

  • In the win over Loyola Marymount, Junior midfielder Leon Williams scored his first career goal, which also happened to be the game winner.

  • Senior GK Jeremy Coupe leads the league in shutouts with four on the season.

  • The Dons head play a home and home with Santa Clara (10/24 and 10/26) this week.

  • The Broncos earned a 1-1 draw against Loyola Marymount, before taking down the first place Toreros, 1-0.

  • Junior Jeff Cosgriff scored his third goal of the year in the win over San Diego, helping him to earn his first WCC Player of the Week this season.

  • Cosgriff now leads the team with three goals and eight points. His goal against San Diego gave the Toreros their first loss in conference play this year.

  • Freshmen MF Brandon Zimmerman and F Connor Mitchell have been integral in setting up several of the Broncos goals this season. Both are tied for first on the team with three assists each and fourth in the conference.
