Santa Clara hosts Portland on FOX Soccer this Friday

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- After a week-long hiatus, West Coast Conference men's soccer returned to action Wednesday night. San Diego defeated Loyola Marymount on the legs of a goal by Patrick Wallen in the 15th minute.

WCC QUICK HITS

  • Following a week-long hiatus, West Coast Conference men's soccer returned to action Wednesday night. San Diego defeated Loyola Marymount 1-0 on the legs of a goal by Patrick Wallen in the 15th minute.

  • The next nationally-televised men's soccer match will be on Friday, October 26 when Portland visits Santa Clara. That contest can be seen live on FOX Soccer.

  • Entering the second half of conference play, Santa Clara is 5-1-0 with 15 point. The Broncos host Portland and Gonzaga this week. SCU won 1-0 at Gonzaga in its most recent match on Sunday, October 14.

  • Defending-WCC champion Saint Mary's is 7-3-3 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference. The Gaels swept their northwest road trip with a 2-0 win at Gonzaga on October 12 and a 1-0 victory at Portland in overtime two days later.

  • Santa Clara senior forward Erik Hurtado leads the WCC in several offensive statistical categories, including shots (4.15 per game), points ( 2.00 per game), and goals (0.85 per game). Hurtado's two goals per match rank fifth in the NCAA.

  • Portland junior Steven Evans is sixth in the nation with 0.85 goals per match. Evans' four goals in conference play rank him second behind Hurtado in the WCC.
