Portland's Michael Nielsen Named WCC Men's Soccer Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference has announced its men's soccer Player of the Week award-winner for October 31, 2011.


Portland senior midfielder Michael Nielsen is the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for men's soccer. Nielsen scored four of Portland's six goals as the Pilots posted consecutive shutout wins at home over the Gonzaga Bulldogs and the Saint Mary's Gaels.

Against the Bulldogs on Wednesday night at Merlo Field, Nielsen scored once in the first half and again in the second as the Pilots defeated Gonzaga 2-0. Nielsen then scored twice more on Friday night as Portland rolled to a 4-0 win over Saint Mary's. His four goals came on just seven shots. Nielsen now leads the team with six goals on the season and he's tied for the team high with 12 points.
