SAN DIEGO, Calif. - University of San Diego men's soccer senior forward Colin Jennings has been named the West Coast Conference player of the month for October. Jennings competed in all eight matches recording three goals and one assist for seven points. He tallied seven shots on goal, and three game winnings goals.
Jennings and the team will return to the comforts of Torero Stadium for their final homestand of the regular season. They first face the Portland Pilots followed by the Gonzaga Bulldogs this weekend. The Toreros, the Pilots, and the Bulldogs are all deadlocked for second place with 16 points each.
SCOUTING THE PILOTS: The Toreros defeated Portland 2-1 in regulation from Merlo Field last month. The win snapped a Torero four game losing streak and started a six match undefeated streak. The Toreros will look to bounce back from the Santa Clara loss with win over the Pilots who are on a five match undefeated streak. Portland's last loss was against USD on Oct. 12 in Portland.
Portland is currently 7-4-5 overall and 4-1-4 in the WCC. The Pilot to watch for will be junior forward Alex Elliott who has five goals and nine assists for 19 points. Elliott has 18 shots on goal, three game winning goals, and is 1-1 on penalty kick attempts.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: The Toreros picked up a 1-0 overtime victory the last time these two teams met. The win marked the second time in USD school history the Toreros swept on their road trip to the Northwest.
Gonzaga is currently 9-3-4 overall and are 4-1-4 in the WCC. The Bulldog to watch for will be senior forward George Josten who has five goals and seven assists for 15 points.
