San Diego moves on to NCAA Second Round, will face No. 6 UCLA Sunday

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- The University of San Diego is on to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Toreros will play at No. 6 UCLA Sunday night at 5 p.m. PT.


  • San Diego defeated Cal State Northridge 2-1 in double-overtime on Thursday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Matador Stadium. Dan Delgado netted the equalizer in the 89th minute then assisted on Connor Brandt's game-winner in the 103rd minute of action, avenging aSeptember loss to CSUN.

  • The winner of the USD-UCLA match will face the winner of No. 11 Tulsa/South Florida in the NCAA Quarterfinals.

  • San Diego clinched the 2012 West Coast Conference championship with a 3-2 win over Saint Mary's on Friday, November 9. This is the Toreros' first WCC crown since 2009. USD clinched the title on the heels of a Santa Clara tie at Loyola marymount earlier in the day.

  • Santa Clara finished one point behind San Diego in the final WCC standings. The Broncos were unbeaten in their final five matches and hadn't lost since a 2-1 setback to Portland on October 26th on FOX Soccer.

  • LMU ended its season on a five-match unbeaten streak following a 4-2 win over Saint Mary's in its season finale. Junior Christian Alvarado netted two goals for LMU in the win.

  • Portland ended its season on a three-match unbeaten streak. The Pilots ended their 2012 campaign with a scoreless draw at San Francisco.

  • The West Coast Conference announced its 2012 all-conference selections and individual award winners as voted on by the WCC's seven head coaches. See the attached pages for more information.
