Three WCC teams earned selection to the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament, as announced by the NCAA selection committee on Monday. Santa Clara received the No. 7 seed in the tournament and will have a first round bye, while Gonzaga will travel to meet SMU, and Portland will head to Washington for first round contests.
The three selections mark the most for the WCC since 2004, when the league received four bids for the second straight year. It also marks the 19th time in conference history that multiple men's soccer teams have earned postseason selection.
Santa Clara, which has spent the majority of the season ranked in the top 10 in the country, finished the regular season with a 15-1-4 record overall and a 10-0-2 mark in WCC play. The Broncos, who are in the midst of a 17-game unbeaten run, received a bye to the second round and will face the winner of UCLA and New Mexico on November 28 at Buck Shaw Stadium at 7:00 PM.
Portland finished the regular season with a 10-5-5 overall record and placed third in the WCC with a 6-2-4 league mark. The Pilots earned the post-season nod by going 6-1-2 in their final nine matches, and will be making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2004. They will take on Washington in Seattle on Friday at 7:00 PM in first round action, with the winner advancing to meet UC Santa Barbara in the second round.
Gonzaga closed out the regular season with a 9-6-4 overall record, and a 4-4-4 mark in WCC play. The Zags will be making the program's second NCAA Tournament appearance, and the first since the 2001 season. GU will travel to Dallas, TX to meet SMU, with the winner moving on to face No. 8 seed Creighton in second round play.
