Honolulu, HI - The Gaels were unable to upset No. 18 Florida State on Thursday, as they fell to the Seminoles, 5-2. Saint Mary's picked up two singles wins, as Marek Dvorak and Lucas Tirelli recorded wins at No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
In his first action in a Gael uniform Dvorak defeated Clint Bowles at the No. 2 position, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. Joining Dvorak in winning fashion was freshman Lucas Tirelli. Tirelli defeated Florida State's Maciek Sykut, 6-4, 7-5. At the No. 1 position for the Gaels, Joel Kusnierz was edged by Jean-Yves Aubone.
In doubles competition the Gaels were only able to capture a win at the No. 1 position, as Kusnierz and Dvorak teamed up to defeat Jean-Yves Aubone and Clint Bowles, 8-4.
"The team played well today," said Head Coach Michael Wayman, "We had an opportunity to upset a very talented team in Florida State."
The Gaels return to action against Hawaii on Saturday, January 18 at 12:00 PM HT.
