Lewiston, Idaho - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team battled to a 4-3 victory over Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston Idaho Monday. The Warriors are currently ranked No. 17 in the NAIA.
With the victory, the Zags remain undefeated in the spring with a perfect 2-0 record.
The Warriors jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage thanks to earning the doubles point. The Bulldogs' duo of Copper Fratt and Logan Naplosky earned a 9-7 win at No. 3, but it wasn't enough as LCSC took the No. 1 and 2 victories. Playing No. 1, the Warriors' Cedric Dufour and Kevin Lee posted an 8-6 win over Gonzaga's Roman Dojcak and Stefan Feddersen. At No. 2, GU's Zack Radetzky and Conor Feeney fell 8-5 to Sebastian Kuhn and Johnathan Berhane.
The Zags' rebounded in singles play, earning three straight victories to take a 3-1 advantage. Dojcak earned the Bulldogs' first point with a straight-set, 6-4, 6-3, victory at No. 1 over Oliver Stone before Radetzky propelled the Zags to a 2-1 edge. Radetzky fought back from an early deficit to post a 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 over Lee. Feddersen then posted a hard fought 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Dufour at No. 2 to extend Gonzaga's lead to 3-1.
Lewis-Clark State posted a comeback at the No. 5 and 3 positions to tie the match at 3-3. Feeney dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Ali Faris at No. 5, while Fratt lost a long three-set match, 5-7, 6-4, 7-6, at No. 3 to Berhane.
Charles Adams' straight-set victory at No. 6 sealed the victory for the Zags as the senior defeated Kuhn 6-2, 6-3.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday, January 24, as they travel to Seattle to face No. 37 University of Washington before traveling to the University of Arizona and No. 46 Arizona State University on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
