Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team lost today's match against Hawaii University 4-3. The thrilling competition went down to the last match but the Gaels could not pull out the victory.
The Gaels earned the first point by winning all three doubles matches. Adam Fauvre and Alp Ozpinar won their match 8-6. Joel Kusnierz and Achim Christner won their match 8-2. Andre Sion and Andrea Zannoni defeated their opposition 8-3.
The Gaels then began singles play. Zannoni won his match without too much hassle, winning 6-3, 6-0. Chirstner fell in a tough three set match, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-3. Fauvre gave the Gaels a 3-1 when he won his match in two sets 6-4, 6-4. Kusnierz fell in two sets 7-5, 6-4. The score was now 3-2.
The two remaining matches were the most thrilling of the day. The Gaels happened to fall on the wrong end of the matches. Ozpinar lost in three sets, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5). The thrilling match went down to the wire but the Gaels couldn't pull this one out. With the score tied 3-3 it came down to the final match. Unfortunately for the Gaels, Sion fell in three tight matches, 2-6, 6-2 7-6 (7-2)
The Gaels look to get back on track tomorrow when they face conference opponent Gonzaga. The match will begin at 10:30 a.m. from the Korth tennis Complex.
