Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team competed against the Sonoma State Seawolves today. The match was originally scheduled for February 17 but was moved to today due to weather conditions. The Gaels won today's match 6-1.
The match began with singles and the Gaels won all singles matches they played in today. Joel Kusnierz breezed through his match 6-2, 6-1. Kusnierz won his fourth straight singles match. Andre Sion followed suit and won his match, 6-1, 6-4. Today Sion won his third straight singles match.
Andrea Zannoni ended a three game skid today when he won his match 6-2, 7-5. Senior Adam Fauvre won his third straight singles match today 6-3, 6-1. He has won five of his last six matches. Yury Platanov won his second straight match 6-0, 6-3. He has won four of his five singles matches this season. Dan Anderson won out the scored the sixth Gael point when he won his match in three sets, 6-7(7-3), 6-3, 1-0 (10-8).
After the Gaels had already solidified the match they played doubles. Kusnierz and Platanov won their match 8-0. Unfortunately fore the Gaels they were the only doubles team to record a win today. Fauvre and Zannoni dropped their doubles match 8-3 and Anderson and Thomas Dawson-Roberts dropped a close match 9-7. This resulted in the lone Sonoma State point, giving the Gaels a final score of 6-1.
Saint Mary's returns to action this Saturday, March 3 against WCC opponent Portland. The match will begin at Noon from the Korth Tennis Complex.
