LA JOLLA, Calif. - Gonzaga University's No. 2 doubles team of junior Brett Womack and sophomore Marco Pineda won their match Sunday afternoon against the University of California, San Diego's Brent Molden and Steve Oechel 8-5.
However it was not enough for Gonzaga to clinch the doubles point.
The University of California, San Diego defeated Gonzaga 7-0 at the Northview Tennis Courts on the UCSD campus. The Bulldogs fall to 1-9 for the season.
In singles play Cooper Fratt and Marco Pineda both pushed their matches to three sets. In the No. 4 position Fratt held strong wining the first match 6-2. Fratt lost to Erik Oijala 2-6, 6-2, 14-12. Marco Pineda played in the No. 3 spot, came back after losing the first set 3-6 to win the second 7-5. Pineda lost to Blake Meister 6-3, 5-7, 10-2.
The Bulldogs are back in action Monday at the University of California, Riverside.
