USF Men's Tennis Falls to Golden Gophers 5-2

(Pebble Beach, CA) - The Dons struggled on Saturday and fell to the University of Minnesota at the 2006 Pebble Beach Intercollegiate Tennis Shoot-Out.

The Dons were in command of the Doubles Point with the clinching match up 5-4 but freshman Korbi Kramer and junior Matt Berry lost a close one 8-6. Berry then bounced back in the singles to win 7-5, 6-7, 1-0; 10-8 in the super-tie-breaker against No. 65 Nationally Ranked DJ Geatz. Berry showed stamina and toughness to pull the match out in the end after a close second set tie-breaker. The Cape Town, South Africa native had strokes of greatness with backhands up the line and aggressive play.

Freshman Thong Tu also won at #6 6-4 in the third. Tu showed the toughness to pick up his level after losing the first set. He also picked up the doubles win with sophomore Falko Huettenberger at #3.

The Dons return to action tomorrow at Pebble Beach, taking on Cal.
