Malibu, Calif. - Coming off of a 2-0 weekend, the No. 2 Pepperdine men's tennis team defeated No. 28 Washington 7-0 at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. With the win, the Waves climbed to 19-1, while the Huskies fell to 13-3 on the season.
Sweeping all three matches, Pepperdine gained the doubles point to start the sweep. Finishing first on court three was Richard Johnson and Omar Altmann, who defeated Jean-Noel Insausti and Mike Ricks 8-3, while the No. 27 Wave duo of Pedro Rico and Ivor Lovrak held off Klaus Jank and Andy Kuharszky 8-6. The No. 1 pair of Scott Doerner and Andre Begemann closed out the doubles competition with an 8-5 win over No. 19 Daniel Chu and Alex Slovic.
In singles, No. 66 senior Ivor Lovrak finished first as he defeated No. 57 Jean-Noel Insausti 6-1, 6-1, while freshman Omar Altmann followed with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat over Klaus Jank. Securing the win, No. 4 senior Scott Doerner handed a 6-0, 6-3 defeat to No. 39 Alex Slovic. Winning in the tiebreaker, Andre Begemann defeated Andy Kuharszky, No. 19 Pedro Rico handled Pierre Metenier, and Richard Johnson beat Daniel Chu.
Nationally-ranked at No. 2 for the fifth consecutive week, the Waves travel to Fort Worth, Texas to play No. 32 Texas Christian University on Saturday, March 25 in a 4 p.m. match and face No. 26 California on Sunday, March 26 at noon.
