Men's Tennis Falls to Fresno State

Fresno, CA - The Saint Mary's men's tennis team fell to the Fresno Bulldogs earlier today by a score of 6-1. Although nearly every match was close, the Bulldogs got the better of the Gaels in today's final.

The doubles matches were all close in today's competition. Andre Sion and Adam Fauvre were involved in a tough match but eventually fell 9-7. Yury Platonov and Achim Christner lost their match 8-6. Andrea Zannoni and Alp Ozpinar dropped the third close doubles match for the Gaels by a score of 9-8 (7-5).

Sion faced off against Fresno State's Jakub Cech. Cech entered the match with a ranking of No. 100. He won the first set by a score of 6-1 and took the game in a close second set 7-6 (7-2). Fauvre lost a tough match 6-3, 6-3. Platonov dropped his match 6-4, 6-2. Zannoni fell by a final score of 6-0, 6-2.

Christner got involved in a close match Fresno's Flavio Mollinedo. Mollinedo won the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4). Christner won the second set 3-6. The game went into a super tiebreaker where Christner fell 10-6.

Ozpinar scored the lone Gael point in today's competition. He defeated Fresno's Tyler Leiby in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-2. Ozpinar has two straight singles matches.

The Gaels return to action on Tuesday. They will face off against Air Force from the Korth Tennis Complex at 3:00 p.m.
