SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's tennis team narrowly defeated the Harvard Crimson by a score of 4-3 Monday at USD's West Tennis Courts. The win, which is USD's third in a row, improves the Toreros' record to an impressive 11-5 overall.
An injury to 53rd ranked senior Pierrick Ysern in Saturday's match against San Diego State led to minor changes in the Torero lineup. In doubles Oscar Plotnick and Thomas Liversage teamed up at the No. 1 spot, dropping their set to Harvard's Brandon Chiu and Ashwin Kumar by a score of 8-5. Jonas Mouly and Mirza Koristovic picked up the lone San Diego win in the doubles ladder with a 9-8 victory over Scott Denenberg and Gideon Valkin.
Senior Oscar Plotnik, playing at No. 1 singles for the first time this season, defeated Brandon Chiu by scores of 6-4 in both sets. Thomas Liversage moved into the No. 2 spot and defeated Harvard's Chris Clayton 7-6 and 6-3. Mirza Koristovic rolled by his opponent, taking a 7-5, 6-0 win at the No. 3 slot. Jonas Mouly dropped his first set to Shantanu Dhaka 4-6 but came back to win the next two sets, sealing the victory for the Toreros.
San Diego, ranked 36th nationally, plays host to UC Santa Barbara in the final home match of the season Saturday April 8 at 12:30 p.m.
