Malibu, Calif. - The No. 2 Pepperdine men's tennis team defeated No. 75 Harvard 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. With the win, the Waves moved to 22-1 on the season, while the Crimson fell to 4-9 on the season.
Harvard picked up the first win on court two in doubles as Scott Denenberg and Gideon Valkin upset No. 28 Ivor Lovrak and Pedro Rico 8-4. Richard Johnson and Omar Altmann defeated Shantanu Dhaka and Dan Nguyen 8-6 at No. 3, which left the doubles point up for grabs. No. 38 Ashwin Kumar and Sasha Ermakov forced Scott Doerner and Andre Begemann to a tiebreaker, but the No. 1 nationally-ranked pair was too much for the Crimson duo to handle as the Waves won 9-8 (7) to clinch the point.
In singles, No. 4 Doerner easily put away Brandon Chiu 6-1, 6-2 at position one, while Altmann defeated Valkin 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5, putting the Waves up 3-0. Begemann clinched the match when he defeated Ermakov 6-3, 6-1.
Harvard picked up wins at positions two, four and six to give it three points in the match.
The Waves are back in action on Sunday, April 2 when they take on Santa Clara at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. Action is scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m.
