Men's Tennis Get Back on Track with 6-1 Victory

MALIBU, Calif. -

The Pepperdine men's tennis team wasted little time getting back in the column Wednesday afternoon, downing the Cal Poly Mustangs 6-1 at the Ralph-Straus Tennis Center .

 

Pepperdine swept the double's point and won single's positions 1-5 in the victory.

 

James Lemke gave Pepperdine a 2-0 lead in the match after cruising past Kyle Roybal, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 3 position. Cal Poly closed the gap to 2-1 after Nick Berger defeated Troy Aiken by the same scores.

 

Richard Johnson picked up a straight set victory over Rob Foy at the No. 4 position to extend the Pepperdine lead to 3-1 and Omar Altmann's 6-1, 6-4 victory over Fred Dewitte at No. 5 clinched the match for the Waves who have now won 54 straight home matches.

 

Bassam Beidas topped Darryn Young, 7-6, 6-2 at the No. 2 position and Andre Begemann out lasted Matt Baca, 7-5, 4-6, 10-6, at the No. 1 position to end the match.

 

Pepperdine will return at action Saturday when it hosts San Diego at 1 p.m. PDT.
