LOS ANGELES - Loyola Marymount men's tennis topped New Mexico State (8-10) 4-3 Friday at the LMU Tennis Center. The victory makes the Lions (8-12) winners of four of their last five matches.
LMU won the doubles point, winning 8-4 at No. 2 and 8-2 at No. 3.
The Lions then got off to a quick 3-0 lead in singles play after senior NicoTerrien won 6-4,6-2 at No. 1 and Sam Tadevosian won 6-1,6-2 at No. 2.
"Nico andSam really took care of business today," LMU Head Coach Nik DeVore said. "Their opponents were tough, butneither one of our guys let them into the match for a second."
However, LMU senior MattPhillips put the match away for the Lions with a come-from-behind4-6,6-3,6-3 win at No. 5 to make the score 4-2.
Freshman Nikola Petrov lost avery tough 7-6,3-6,7-6 match at No.4 to make the final score 4-3 in favor ofthe Lions.
"This was a very good win for us today," DeVore said. "New Mexico State is asolid team that never gives up. We had to really gut this match out.Matt's win at No.5 for us today really made the difference. He had beenstruggling as of late, but this type of win should put him back on track."
