Men's Tennis Holds Serve over Denver, 5-2

MALIBU, Calif. -

The Pepperdine Waves dropped the double's point to the Denver Pioneers Saturday afternoon at the Ralph-Straus Tennis Center , but rallied back to claim 5-of-6 singles matches to extend their home win streak to 56 straight.


Bassam Beidas and James Lemke cruised to an 8-3 victory at the No. 3 double's spot but losses at court No. 2 by Andre Begemann and Mahmoud Kamel and court No. 1 by Richard Johnson and Omar Altmann gave the point to Denver .


Beidas evened the match at 1-all with a straight-set victory over Nejc Smole at the No. 2 position. Kamel was not far behind his fellow rookie in picking up a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ravjot Dhatt at the No. 6 position to give Pepperdine the lead for good.


Altmann and Lemke both picked up straight-set victories at courts No. 5 and 3, respectively, to clinch the match for the home team.


Begemann fell to Adam Holmstrom on court No. 1 for the second Denver point of the match and Johnson's 7-5, 6-1 victory at court No. 4 ended the contest.


Pepperdine will wrap up the 2007 regular season on Monday when it hosts Fresno State at 3 p.m. PDT.
