WACO, Texas - The University of San Diego men's tennis team concluded play at the H.E.B. Baylor Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
In singles action Jose Munoz was defeated in the round of 16 by New Mexico State's Stefan McKinney, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.
In the backdraw, Charl Wolmarans went all the way to the championship round, before falling to the eventual winner Louisiana Lafayette's Piotr Olechowski. He began with a 2-7, 7-6, 1-0 (1) win over Texas Tech's Jay Woford, then he downed Boise State's Stanley Surapanich 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (0). In the quarterfinals, Wolmarans defeated Texas A&M Corpus Christi's James Langford in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 and in the semifinal round he downed New Mexico State's Alejandro De Mucha in straight sets 6-0, 6-4
Thomas Liversage also did well in the backdraw as he advanced to the semifinal round. In the third round he downed Sinisa Markovic in straight sets 7-6, 6-0, then he picked up a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (8) win over Texas A&M's Chris Chinico before falling to Oklahoma's Tiago Espirito Santo, 5-0, ret.
In other backdraw action, Nils Schive defeated Texas-San Antonio's Daniel Moreiras in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3, then fell to New Mexico State's Eduardo Salas in the next round in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Chris Coetzee also did well in backdraw action as he picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Louisville's Robert Rotaru, then fell to Texas A&M's Brad Williams in the third round, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7).
