Napolsky Advances to Singles B Semifinals

Logan Napolsky, of the Gonzaga University men's tennis team, advanced to the semifinals of the singles flight B bracket Saturday during the second day of the Gonzaga/Eastern Washington University Tournament in Cheney.

Competing in the three-day event are Gonzaga, Eastern Washington, the University of Montana, the University of Idaho, Portland State University, Whitworth College, Lewis-Clark State College and Spokane Community College.

Napolsky advanced to the semifinals with victories in the round of 16 and quarterfinals. In the round of 16, he defeated Jeff Cero of Portland State by a score of 5-7, 6-4, 6-1. He then defeated Jonathan Berhane of LCSC in straight sets (6-4, 7-6 (5)).

In the consolation draw of the singles B bracket, Casey McCoy posted two victories to advance to the semifinals. In the opening round, McCoy earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over SCC's Alan Tai to earn a bye in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, McCoy posted a straight-set (6-4, 6-3) victory over Montana's John Halligan.

In the singles A draw, Roman Dojcak and Stefan Feddersen posted victories in the round of 16, before falling in the quarterfinals. Dojcak defeated Jonathan Davis of Eastern (6-4, 2-6, 6-3) before dropping a 6-3, 6-1 match to the Eagles' Nico Riego De Dios. Feddersen earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Colin Dektar of Montana before falling to Idaho's Stas Glukhov (6-4, 7-6(4)).

Conor Feeney advanced to the semifinals of the singles A back draw with a three-set victory over Idaho's Hugh McDonald (6-4, 2-6, 10-5).

The Bulldogs advanced two doubles teams to the quarterfinals, but were unable to advance to the semifinals. Feeney and Cooper Fratt posted a 8-3 victory in the round of 16 against Anegon and Elliot of Whitworth before falling to Montana's Dektar and Raw 8-4. Dojcak and Feddersen advanced to the quarterfinals with a 8-1 victory over Idaho's Dobb and Miranda but were unable to advance past the quarters thanks to a 8-2 loss to the Vandals' Glukhov and Potapkin (8-2).

The GU/EWU Tournament concludes Sunday with all the matches being played at the tennis courts on Eastern's campus.
