Santa Barbara, Calif. - Day two action at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational pitted Loyola Marymount against the defending Big West Conference Champion and tournament host Gauchos, who finished 2006 ranked 72nd in the nation. Four of the six singles matches were three-set battles, but the Lions came up just short on the road.
"We had a lot of great three set matches, and the guys worked hard, but we came up just a handful of points short in each one," LMU Head Coach Nik DeVore said Saturday.
Fellow freshman Nick Perez picked up a singles victory when UCSB's Josh Finkelstein was forced to retire in the second set due to injury.
The Lions continue play Sunday at 9:00 a.m. at the UC Santa Barbara Invitational.
