All Nine WCC Men's Tennis Teams in Full Swing

SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- The West Coast Conference men's tennis season has officially begun. All nine teams competed in non-conference action and five of the nine teams remain ranked in the ITA's top 65.

QUICK HITS

  • Portland extended its winning streak to 4-0 with 5-2 wins over then-No. 56 Idaho and UC Davis. The Pilots will take a break before continuing their six match homestand with a full week and a half off before their match against Gonzaga on February 17.

  • Gonzaga split its matches at home over the weekend with a close 4-3 loss to Idaho and a sweep over Seattle. With the win, senior Zhia Hwa Chong remains undefeated at the No. 4 singles position, improving to 6-0 this spring.

  • After two tough losses at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Malibu, CA against then-No. 36 Vanderbilt and then-No. 52 Cal Poly, the Cougars rebounded with back-to-back wins in the same day against Idaho State and Montana State at home.

  • After sweeping both its opponents in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend (Cal Poly and Vanderbilt), Pepperdine dropped two matches to undefeated teams, then-No. 3 Ohio State (7-0) and then-No. 7 Kentucky (8-0). The Waves' schedule continues to impress with their next match against defend- ing NCAA Champion and No. 1-ranked USC on February 10.

  • San Diego posted a 4-3 victory at then-No. 23 Tulsa. The Toreros won the doubles point with victories out of their No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairs, while senior Nikola Bubnic clinched the win playing in his first match at No. 2 singles season.
