West Coast Conference Announces 2011 WCC Men's Tennis Preseason Poll

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's tennis team was chosen to finish first in the 2011 West CoastConference preseason poll, as voted on by the conference coaches. Pepperdine and San Diego claimed five ofthe six singles players on the preseason all-conference team, while Santa Clara took the remaining spot.

The top three finishers from last year took the top three spots in this year's preseason poll. Pepperdine, whichwon its 41st WCC title in program history last season, garnered 48 total points and six of the eight first placevotes. San Diego collected the two remaining first place votes and 43 total points for second place in thepreseason poll, while Santa Clara, last year's second place finisher in the WCC, received a total of 38 points totake the third spot on the preseason list.

Loyola Marymount was picked fourth with 27 points. Saint Mary's was selected fifth with 25 points. SanFrancisco came in sixth with two less points than the Gaels, while Portland and Gonzaga rounded out thecoaches' poll.

The men's preseason all-conference team saw some familiar names from the 2010 preseason list, includingPepperdine's Alex Llompart and San Diego's Nikola Bubnic and Dean Jackson. Llompart competed in the 2010NCAA Doubles Championships with former partner Bassam Beidas and finished the season with a No. 30doubles ranking by the ITA. Jackson and Bubnic were both 2010 All-WCC First Team selections. Bubnic endedthe season ranked No. 91 by the ITA and was named the 2010 ITA Player to Watch Award for the SouthwestRegion. Jackson advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2009 NCAA Singles Championships.

First time preseason all-conference selections Sebastian Fanselow and Finn Tearney of Pepperdine and KyleDandan of Santa Clara are no strangers to the WCC tennis scene. Fanselow earned WCC Freshman of the Yearhonors last season and finished with a No. 72 ranking by the ITA, while Tearney earned All-WCC second teamhonors after going 26-9 overall in singles. Dandan was also named to the All-WCC second team after playingan integral part of the Broncos' first-ever appearance in the WCC finals since the tournament changed to aseven-point format.
