EUGENE, Ore. --- After taking the doubles point, the University of Portland men's tennis team dropped five of the six singles matches in a 5-2 loss to Brigham Young Wednesday afternoon at the Student Tennis Center. Portland junior Charlie Yemm claimed the Pilots' lone singles victory, a 6-4, 6-4 win in the No. 4 position.
Portland (2-2) earned the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Alex Strom and Yemm won 8-5 and Joel Kincaid and Evan Schleining earned an 8-6 win to clinch the point.
In singles play, BYU earned straight set wins at the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 positions. Portland freshman Filip Zivkovic lost a three-setter to James Ludlow, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 2, and freshman Evan Schleining dropped a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 decision to Cassidy Mears at No. 6.
Zivkovic lost in singles play for the first time this season
The Pilots will return to Eugene and face UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 10 at 5 p.m. Portland's rigorous non-conference schedule continues at No. 18 Washington on Feb. 16. The Pilots will return home to face Linfield and Whitman in a doubleheader on Feb. 24.
