SAN BRUNO, Calif.-University of San Diego sophomore Filip Vittek has been named the West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week, while Pepperdine sophomore Guilherme Hadlich and senior Rakshay Thakkar earn doubles weekly honor in the sport of men's tennis, the league announced Tuesday.
Vittek went 7-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles against Loyola Marymount's Charles Bryce after posting a 6-4 victory with classmate Jordan Augus at No. 1 doubles versus Bryce and Errol Smith. His 1-0 mark last Friday, helped the No. 30 Toreros earn a 6-1 victory past the Lions and improved the team record to 8-2, 2-0 WCC for the spring campaign. He has won eight of his last 10 singles matches and nine of his last 10 doubles matches. For the season, the Trnava, Slovakia native is 15-4 overall in No. 1 singles action and 9-5 at No. 1 doubles play. This weeks honor marks the second career weekly award for the No. 68th Torero.
Hadlich and Rakshay Thakkar went 2-0 in doubles last week, while also picking up their first win over a ranked opponent. The pair first posted a win over Oregon's Kevin Farin and Jayson Amos, 6-3 from the No. 1 spot in the doubles lineup. The following day, the duo handed Tulsa's No. 33 doubles partners Carlos Bautista and Alejandro Espejo a 6-0 loss. For the season, the teammates are 3-1 in both overall and dual play in the No. 1 position for the Waves. The doubles honor is the first for Hadlick and Thakkar.
