The West Coast Conference announced that senior Pierrick Ysern was named WCC co-Singles Player of the Month for February. Ysern shares the honor with Pepperdine's Scott Doerner.
Last spring, Ysern became the 2005 NCAA Division I men's tennis runner-up and finished the spring season with a 25-7 overall record. After a season-ending injury sidelined Ysern for the entire fall schedule, he has made an immediate impact upon returning to the Torero lineup. He is currently undefeated in singles at the No. 1 spot with a record of 8-0. In his very first match of the season, Ysern handed UCLA's Benjamin Kohlloeffel, ranked third in the nation at the time, a 4-6, 6-3, (10-8) defeat. Ysern played a crucial role in USD's 4-3 upset of then-18th ranked USC, defeating the Trojans' top player in straight sets.
Currently, Ysern, a native of Paris, France, is ranked 51st in the nation on a Torero team that is ranked 29th. This is the second Player of the Month honor for Ysern.
San Diego, who is currently 7-2 on the season, heads to Fresno to face Middle Tennessee State (Friday, March 10; 12:00 p.m.) and Fresno State (Saturday, March 11; 12:00 p.m.)
