Malibu, Calif. - The Pepperdine doubles team of senior Scott Doerner and sophomore Andre Begemann has captured a No. 1 national ranking given by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, it was announced Thursday morning. The top ranking marks the first time a doubles team has earned the top spot in Adam Steinberg's 13 years as a head coach.
Doerner and Begemann are 14-1 on the season and went 3-0 at the ITA National Men's Indoor Championships where they defeated two nationally-ranked doubles teams. Their only loss came at the hands of UCLA's now-No. 8 duo of Benjamin Kohlloeffel and Philipp Gruendler.
Seniors Pedro Rico and Ivor Lovrak earned a national ranking of No. 35 after going 7-2 in the No. 2 position and picked up a win over Wake Forest's No. 46 doubles team of Todd Paul and Andrew Hamar on Wednesday in the No. 1 position.
The No. 2 Waves also have three players ranked in singles with Doerner topping the list at No. 17, while Rico follows with a No. 20 ranking. With an undefeated record of 12-0 playing at the second and third positions, Lovrak is ranked at No. 62 rounding out the Top 125.
