SAN BRUNO, Calif.-Gonzaga University junior Alvaro Nazal has been named the West Coast Conference Singles Player of the Week, while University of Portland seniors Reid deLaubenfels and Steffen Dierauf earn doubles weekly honor in the sport of men's tennis, the league announced Tuesday.

Nazal went 2-0 in singles play last week, helping the Bulldogs start league play with a win over Loyola Marymount and a close loss to No. 50 Pepperdine. Against the Lions, Nazal clinched the victory with a three-set win over Charles Boyce atop the singles lineup, winning the final two sets for the come-from-behind victory by score 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2). Earlier in the weekend, Nazal started Gonzaga's singles rally against the Waves with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Stefan Menichella, also in the top singles slot. Even though Gonzaga's rally fell short in the 4-3 loss, the Zags scored their best performance against Pepperdine in school history, grabbing three points off the Waves and holding a chance at the upset until late in the match. The Santiago, Chile, native sports a 22-7 overall ledger, an 8-4 mark in dual matches, 14-3 in tournament play, and 8-4 in the No. 1 singles flight. Nazal collects his second career tennis honor, as he earned the monthly award October 4, 2012.

Portland classmates' deLaubenfels and Dierauf guided the Pilots to a 2-0 team mark with league wins over Loyola Marymount (4-1) and No. 50 Pepperdine (4-3). The senior duo earned a 7-6 (7-4) tiebreak victory at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point over the Lions pair and last weeks WCC doubles team honorees, Errol Smith and Joat Farah. The following day, the twosome stumbled 5-4 to No. 79 Guilherme Hadlich and Rakshay Thakkar in doubles competition. However, both deLaubenfels and Dierauf earned singles win over the Waves as Dierauf cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 outing over Menicella, while deLaubenfels defeated Hadlich 6-2, 6-2 in the team victory. This season, the tandem is 7-2 at the No. 1 doubles position and are 1-1 in league play.
