SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announces its men’s tennis weekly honors for singles and doubles competition for March 26, 2014.

MEN’S TENNIS SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK
FRANCIS ALCANTARA, SR., PEPPERDINE
In a week where Pepperdine hosted a pair of top-20 opponents, Francis Alcantara was the only Wave to win a set in singles vs. the Sooners, taking the first frame vs. #5 Guillermo Alcorta 6-4. Alcantara was on serve, 3-4 vs. Alcorta in the second when action was suspended. The senior followed that up with a 6-2, 6-1 West Coast Conference win over San Francisco’s James Tallman. On Sunday, the #46 Waves nearly upset #17 Cal but ultimately fell 4-3. Down 1-3 as a team, Alcantara kept Pepperdine alive by winning his third set vs. #81 Campbell Johnson, 6-2. For the unranked Alcantara, it was his first win over a ranked opponent this season. He is 10-6 in dual action this season, second on the team only to Alex Sarkissian, and 17-9 overall.
