Malibu, Calif. - Four Pepperdine student-athletes were honored by the West Coast Conference (WCC) as Players of the Month for March, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Adrian Ortiz (Baseball), Bassam Beidas and James Lemke (Men's Tennis) and Misun Cho (Women's Golf) were recognized for their accomplishments.
Adrian Ortiz (Baseball)
Ortiz led Pepperdine to an 11-5 mark and helped lift the Waves to a No. 8 national ranking during the month of March. The leadoff hitter set the table for one of the most potent offenses in the WCC, batting a conference-high .447 (34-for-76) and pacing the circuit with 34 hits. Ortiz ranked fourth in the league with 16 runs scored, and ranked in the conference's Top 10 in on-base percentage (.456-8th) and total bases (41-3rd). The junior also posted a .539 slugging percentage with six steals, and drove in 11 runs in 16 games. He ended March by hitting safely in five straight games, and capped the month by hitting a game-winning two-run home run in the seventh inning of Pepperdine's 3-1 win over Saint Mary's on March 31.
Bassam Beidas & James Lemke (Men's Tennis - Doubles)
The duo of Bassam Beidas and James Lemke posted a perfect 7-0 record during the month of March. Beidas and Lemke helped the Waves post four wins over teams ranked in the Top 60 en route to a 7-0 record in the month. The freshman tandem's month was highlighted by a win over the No. 68 ranked doubles team of Luis Diaz Barriga and Bernhard Deussner of No. 12 Texas.
Misun Cho (Women's Golf)
Freshman Misun Cho tied for seventh at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Florida and tied for 25th at the PING/ASU Invitational. She posted a 73.83 stroke average in six rounds. Cho shot rounds of 72-73-76 to total a 5-over par score of 221 to place seventh in a 13-team field that included 11 in the Golfweek Top 30. Cho's tie for 25th at the PING/ASU Invitational came in a 17-team field that included 10 Top 30 teams, including seven in the Top 10.
