Conference Play Coming to a Close, WCC Championships Up Next

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- With only two weeks remaining in regular season WCC men's tennis play, key Championship seeds are up for grabs, as several important matches take place over the next 10 days.


  • Pepperdine continues to pace the WCC in the ITA rankings, coming in at No. 7 in the April 9 edition. The Waves were joined by No. 38 San Diego, No. 39 BYU, and No. 64 Santa Clara.

  • With only two weeks left in Conference play, the 2013 regular season title is still up for grabs with Pepperdine (5-0) and BYU (4-0) leading the charge. The two teams face off on Friday, April 19 in a match that could determine who earns the No. 1 seed into the WCC Tennis Championships.

  • San Diego (4-1) and Saint Mary's (3-1) have also put together impressive Conference runs and will make their cases for a top-three seed at the WCC Championships when they compete next Friday, April 19 in San Diego. The Toreros are led by junior Clarke Spinosa, who has nine wins in his last 11 singles matches, while the Gaels counter with sophomore Samuel Bloore and freshman Thomas Hunt, both of whom are 3-1 in Conference singles play.

  • The 2013 WCC Tennis Championships will once again be held at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. The top three seeds, based on regular season competition, will earn byes, while the remaining six teams begin play on Wednesday, April 24. The Youth Tennis Festival will serve as a kick off to the Championships, as 40 local youth join WCC student-athletes and coaches for a clinic on Tuesday, April 23 from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
