The Gonzaga University men's tennis team will compete in the West Coast Conference Championship in San Diego, Calif. this weekend. The three-day tournament will begin Friday morning at 9 a.m.
The University of San Diego will host the three-day event this year at the USD West Tennis Courts.
The tournament will be held as a dual-match format. The Bulldogs, who are 11-13 overall including 0-5 against WCC foes, are seeded No. 8 and will meet top-seeded and defending national champion Pepperdine University on Friday at 9 a.m. The Waves currently boast a 19-7 record including a 4-0 record in WCC action.
Seniors Bryce Cooper, Brett Womack and Marco Antonio Pineda will be competing in their final WCC Championship. Cooper, who will play No. 1 singles, went 7-16 at that spot during the spring. He looks to continue a hot streak as he has won four of his past five matches. Womack will play No. 3 singles for the Zags after posting an 8-7 record at the position during the spring. Pineda, who has compiled the best singles record for Gonzaga, enters the championship with a 16-8 record during dual match play. He will play in the No. 4 singles spot where he has posted a 12-3 record.
The Zags' doubles teams are expected to be Radetzky and Womack at No. 1, Cooper and Dojcak at No. 2 and Pienda and Adams at No. 3. Cooper and Dojcak lead all Bulldog doubles teams with a 13-7 overall record.
The Waves' will be looking for its 17th straight WCC crown, having claimed each team title since 1991 and 37 WCC championships overall.
The winner of Friday's match between Gonzaga and Pepperdine will advance in the championship draw, while the loser will drop into the consolation draw.
