Winners of 12 of their final 17 regular season matches, the Lions will look to stay hot at this weekend's West Coast Conference Championships, hosted by Saint Mary's. Sixth-seeded LMU opens with third-seeded Santa Clara at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
WCC FIRST ROUND ACTIONMen's tennis will be one of three LMU teams to face Santa Clara at 3:00 p.m. this Friday, as women's tennis and baseball will also take on the Broncos. The Lions enter the match 13-11 overall and 1-5 in WCC play, while the Broncos sit at 13-13 and 5-2. The first round match will be a re-match of the April 1 contest that saw the Broncos top the Lions 5-2, and LMU will now look to avenge the loss in the postseason. The winner of Friday's first round match will take on the winner of second-seeded San Diego and seventh-seeded Portland Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the semifinals.
LMU AND THE WCC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Lions equaled their program-best finish of third place at the WCC Championships twice since 2002. Last season saw fifth-seeded Loyola Marymount defeat sixth-seeded Saint Mary's 4-1 to secure a fifth place finish. Both Nico Terrien and Mike Wojnarowicz were named honorable mention singles selections among the All-WCC honors.
Junior Reyniere Roxas has been the Lions' most consistent player all season, finishing 18-9 overall in singles, with most matches coming at No. 3. He heads into the WCC Championship having won 11 of his last 12 matches.
