WCC Men's Tennis Championship Day 1 Recap

April 20, 2007

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Rain halted play in two of four first round matches of the 2007 West Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championships being held at the University of San Diego.

The two morning matches were completed with No. 1 seed Pepperdine beating No. 8 Gonzaga, 4-0, and No. 5 Saint Mary's knocking off No. 4 Portland, 4-1. The two afternoon matches, which were moved up to 11:30 a.m. starting times and played at the Barnes Tennis Center, were stopped due to inclement weather. Both matches will resume at the USD West Tennis Courts at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning.

The USD Toreros, the No. 3 seed, were tied with No. 6 USF 1-1, but owned first set victories in the four remaining singles matches. No. 2 Santa Clara was ahead of No. 7 LMU, 1-0, and also owned first set victories in four of the five remaining matches.
