WCC Men's Tennis Announces Weekly Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The West Coast Conference announces its men's tennis weekly honors for singles and doubles competition for April 22, 2014.

MEN'S TENNIS SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CLARKE SPINOSA, SR., SAN DIEGO
Senior captain Clarke Spinosa led the University of San Diego to its first regular season West Coast Conference Championship after posting a perfect 3-0 in his matches going up against No. 48 Pepperdine, No. 75 Portland, and Gonzaga. Spinosa's most notable win was defeating No. 29 Alex Sarkissian from Pepperdine. Spinosa also played in major role in not only defeating Pepperdine for the first time since 2003, but leading his squad to a perfect undefeated record in conference (9-0) and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming WCC Championship.

Spinosa is currently ranked No. 65 in singles and No. 53 in doubles. Spinosa has crushed the previous USD record for most doubles wins of all time by eight wins (David Stewart 67, 1986-1989) and is three wins away from claiming most singles wins of all time (Jose Luis Noriega 100, 1989-1992 and Dean Jackson 100, 2008-2011).

MEN'S TENNIS DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK
CLARKE SPINOSA, SR./FILIP VITTEK, FR., SAN DIEGO
Senior captain Clarke Spinosa and freshman Filip Vittek, who play No. 1 doubles for the University of San Diego, completed West Coast Conference play with an unbeaten 7-0 record and have won eleven of their last thirteen matches. This week, Spinosa and Vittek topped Pepperdine's No. 9 ranked Alex Sarkissian and Francis Alacantara 8-4, while cruising past the remainder of their league opponents from Portland and Gonzaga.

The pair is ranked No. 53 in the country but reached a career-high ITA doubles ranking of No. 30 (February 25, 2-14). They are 11-3 in regular season play and have defeated three teams in the top 25.
