SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- After a delay of over three hours due to rain, four West Coast Conference men's tennis teams competed in the second round of the 2012 WCC Tennis Championships, presented by the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego. With the day's matches, No. 3 seed San Diego and No. 4 seed BYU will advance to the semifinals on Friday.
San Diego swept No. 6 seed Portland by a score of 4-0 after taking the doubles point and the top three singles matches. BYU blanked No. 8 seed San Francisco by the same score after securing the doubles point and singles matches at the No. 2, 5 and 6 positions. Four teams now remain in the WCC Championships. Friday's matches will feature No. 1 Pepperdine versus BYU and No. 2 Santa Clara facing San Diego. This will be Pepperdine's and Santa Clara's first appearance at the tournament after receiving double-byes. Pepperdine has won the WCC Championships 41 times, a record in conference history, while Santa Clara is in search of its first conference title. Pepperdine's opponent San Diego has won three Championships, including last year's event, while conference newcomer BYU looks to make history in its first WCC tournament.
