SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Four West Coast Conference men's tennis teams competed in semifinal action today at the 2012 WCC Tennis Championships, presented by the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education. After over four hours of play at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Saturday's men's final matchup was decided as No. 1 seed Pepperdine defeated No. 4 seed BYU and No. 3 seed San Diego upset No. 2 seed Santa Clara.

After receiving a double-bye into the tournament, Pepperdine continued its strong spring campaign by defeating BYU by a score of 4-1 to bring its season record to 22-6 overall. The Waves took the doubles point by securing the No. 1 and 3 doubles matches. Two Wave singles victories followed before BYU junior Spencer Smith defeated Pepperdine junior Finn Tearney at the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-3, to bring the score to 3-1. Pepperdine junior Mousheg Hovhanisyan then clinched the match for the Waves with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 4.

San Diego and Santa Clara battled back and forth for over four hours for the remaining spot in the final. After dropping the doubles point, the Broncos went up 2-1 with victories at No. 4 and 5. San Diego then came back with wins on courts 3 and 6 to take a 3-2 lead. The result of the match came down to the top two singles matches and after a handful of match points traded on both courts, San Diego seniors Nikola Bubnic and Patrick Pohlmann closed out their matches in split sets to make the final match score, 5-2. Bubnic defeated Bronco senior Kyle Dandan 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, while Pohlmann topped Santa Clara sophomore John Lamble, 0-6, 6-2, 7-5.
