Malibu, Calif. - Capping off stellar regular seasons, including the West Coast Conference (WCC) crown for both the men's and women's tennis programs, three Waves were recognized for their performances in April. Pepperdine men's tennis players Pedro Rico and Ivor Lovrak and women's tennis player Bianca Dulgheru were named WCC Players of the Month, the conference office announced Wednesday morning.

Rico earned his first Player of the Month honor this season after posting an outstanding 8-2 record at the No. 2 singles position. Highlighting the month was the senior's win in straight sets over No. 35 Roger Gubser of Texas. The Spain native went 3-0 during the WCC Championships, leading the Waves to their 16th consecutive conference title. Rico ended the month with a national ranking of No. 29.

Earning its first Doubles Team of the Month honor, the Wave duo of Rico and senior teammate Ivor Lovrak notched a 6-1 record at the No. 2 doubles position, including a 2-0 record at the WCC Championships. The pair ended April with a national ranking of 49.

Dulgheru, who shares this month's honor with San Diego's Emma Murphy, led the Waves to their fourth consecutive WCC title. The sophomore posted a 4-0 mark at the No. 1 singles position in April and went 2-0 during the conference championships. Dulgheru notched a 2-0 record versus nationally-ranked opponents, defeating No. 79 Paula Zabala of Florida International and No. 117 Eva Wang of Harvard. The Wave, who concluded the month ranked at No. 22, capped the regular season by being named the 2006 WCC Player of the Year.

Both tennis programs await today's announcement of the NCAA Regional schedule. Selections will be televised on ESPNews at approximately 5:30 p.m. (PT) with the first two rounds of the national tournament slated for May 12-14.
