2009 NCAA Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships Underway

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - The 2009 NCAA Tennis Championships begin today at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center at College Station, Texas. Pepperdine's Omar Altmann and Bassam Beidas will be competing in both the singles and doubles draw. San Diego's Dean Jackson will also be playing in the men's 64-player field. On the women's side, San Francisco's Jenni Heinser will represent the WCC in the singles draw.

Singles will be played first, as Altmann, the WCC Men's Tennis Player of the Year, is scheduled to take the court at 10 AM against Florida's Alex Lacroix. His doubles partner Beidas will be playing against Virginia's Dominic Inglot at 12:30 PM.

Heinser, the WCC Women's Tennis Player of the Year, will take the court shortly after at 1:00 PM. She will match up against Florida State's Noemi Scharle. Jackson will be the last WCC men's match of the day, going up against Ohio State's Justin Kronauge at 3:30 PM.

The pair of Altmann and Beidas will not play doubles until Thursday. Seeded in the top eight, the duo will take on Tulsa's Arnau Brugues and Philip Stephens.

The NCAA Championships will continue until Friday, May 29th. It is a single elimination tournament. Live scoring and stats will be available throughout the duration of the tournament, which can be found at the following link: http://www.aggieathletics.com/ncaa2009/tennis/stats.html.
