SAN BRUNO, Calif. - San Diego's Dean Jackson and Pepperdine's Omar Altmann competed in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tennis Championships. Jackson and Altmann both defeated their opponents today to move on to the Round of 16 in the men's singles draw.
Jackson played a solid match to upset the No. 7 seed of the tournament, Louisiana State's Michael Venus (7-6, 6-3), while Altmann beat Minnesota's Ishay Hadash in a hard-fought three-set match (6-2, 4-6, 6-4).
Jackson and Altmann will return to the courts at 10 AM tomorrow for the next round of singles. Jackson will take on Texas A&M's very own Conor Pollock, while Altmann will have a tough match ahead of him as he is set to face the No. 1 seed of the tournament, Tulsa's Arnau Brugues.
In doubles later that afternoon, Altmann and partner Bassam Beidas paired up to defeat Brugues and Philip Stephens (2-6, 6-1, 7-6) for a spot in the Round of 16 doubles draw. Their opponents for tomorrow's match are still to be determined.
