ATHENS, Geo. - The women's doubles duo of Sylvia Kosakowski and Bianca Dulgheru moved into the round of eight with their victory Friday, but Andre Begemann saw his run come to an end in singles play on the men's side.
Kosakowski and Dulgheru claimed a 6-3 first-set victory over Northwestern's duo of Alexis Prousis and Georgia Rose. The Pepperdine tandem had a chance to pull out the second set by the same score but Northwestern's team was able to hold serve and pulled within one, 5-4. On Kosakowski's serve the Waves went up 40-30 but lost consecutive points and were looking at break point twice before sealing the match.
The Pepperdine duo will have their hands full in the quarterfinal round Saturday as they are scheduled to face the tournament's No. 4 seed in Ana Cetnik and Anna Sydorska of TCU.
Begemann had his run in this year's tournament come to an end in the round of 16 after dropping a tightly contested battle 7-6 (4), 6-4 to the tournament's No. 6 seed Arnau Brugues of Tulsa.
