Stanford, Calif. - The Pepperdine men's tennis doubles team of Scott Doerner and Andre Begeman continued their march through the double's bracket of the NCAA Championships Saturday afternoon at the Taube Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif.
After dropping the first set, 7-5, to Miami's Luigi D'Agord and Daniel Vallverdu, Doerner and Begeman recorded the lone break in the second set to even the contest with a 6-4 victory before sweeping the third and final set, 6-0.
"[The Miami team] we played was a very good team and it was hard to get a break out here," said Doerner. "We knew we always had a chance to win, even after we lost the first set. We just kept playing and playing and eventually the break came in the second set. We knew once the break came we would get momentum from that."
Pepperdine will next face the doubles team of Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom from Middle Tennessee State who advanced to the national semifinals with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 come-from-behind victory over the team from San Diego State.
The third-seeded team from Illinois (Kevin Anderson-Ryan Rowe) and TCU's tandem of Rafael Abreu and Jordan Freitas will face off in the other semifinal tomorrow.
