May 29, 2006

Malibu, Calif. - Competing in its first NCAA Doubles Championship, the second-seeded Wave duo of Scott Doerner and Andre Begemann advanced to the finals after handing Middle Tennessee's Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom, seeded 5-8, a 6-3, 7-6(7) defeat on Sunday evening at Stanford's Taube Center. The Pepperdine tandem will face third-seeded Kevin Anderson and Ryan Rowe of Illinois on Monday, May 29 at 2 p.m.

"We're excited; we believed we could win it, just like the team [title]," said senior Doerner. "Now we've given ourselves a chance. We're ready and we want to play a good match tomorrow."

The Waves have had two doubles champions--Kelly Jones and Jerome Jones in 1984 and Kelly Jones and Carlos DiLaura in 1985. The last Wave duo to reach the final was Robert Lindstedt and Kelly Gullet in 1998, but fell to Stanford's Mike and Bob Bryan.
