Pepperdine's Sebastian Fanselow Named NCAA All-American

June 1, 2011

PALO ALTO, Calif. --- After two spectacular three-set wins over top-20 ranked opponents, Sebastian Fanselow of the Pepperdine men's tennis team was unable to put another "W" behind his name. His run at the NCAA Singles Championship came to a close, with a loss to Tennys Sandgren of Tennessee in the Round of 16.

Fanselow (Essen, Germany) opened his first NCAA singles championship run with perhaps his biggest win of season, eliminating #2-ranked Alex Domijan, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the opening round.

The second round saw the sophomore Wave, ranked #28 in the Campbell/ITA Collegiate Rankings, defeat #19 John Peers 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

The matchup between Fanselow and Sandgren proved to be a balanced one, as just one break decided the first set, while the second was determined in the tiebreaker. The final score went in favor of Sandgren, 6-4, 7-6 (4).

Despite the loss, Fanselow became Pepperdine's 78th All-American in program history for reaching the round of 16. He concludes his sophomore campaign with a singles record of 27-11.

In addition to being an All-American, Fanselow was also an All-West Coast Conference singles and doubles first team selection, ITA Southwest Regional Champion and Pepperdine Athlete of the Year.

This concludes the 2010-11 season for the Waves.
