Men's Tennis Earns National Academic Accolades

SPOKANE, Wash. - - The Gonzaga University men's tennis team has been awarded an International Tennis Association All-Academic Team Award, as announced by the ITA on Thursday. In addition, Charles Adams, Roman Dojcak, Michael Lukomski, Marco Antonio Pineda, Zack Radetzky and Brett Womack of the 2007 Bulldog squad have been named ITA Scholar-Athletes for the 2006-07 school year.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has earned a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above for the current academic year.

In order to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have earned a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and must have been enrolled at their institution for at least two semesters.

The team award marks the first time in Zag history the men's tennis squad has been awarded the accolade.

Adams, a native of Spokane, posted a 3.68 GPA while working on a double major in business and finance and accounting. He primarily played No. 6 singles, posting three victories and also combined with Pineda in doubles play to record nine victories.

Dojcak, who hails from Kosice, Slovakia, recorded a 3.85 GPA in political science. During his freshman campaign, Dojcak made an immediate impact, winning 11 matches during the spring season.

Pineda, from Los Angeles, Calif., posted a 3.78 GPA in public relations. Pineda capped his collegiate career recording a school-record 23 victories during his senior campaign. For his efforts, Pineda was awarded All-West Coast Conference honorable mention accolades to become the second Bulldog men's tennis player to earn all-conference singles honors.

Radetzky, who hails from Calgary, Alberta, recorded a 3.86 GPA during his freshman year at Gonzaga. Radetzky recorded eight victories for the Zags in the spring, including seven when playing at No. 6 singles.

Womack, a native of The Woodlands, Texas, posted a 3.62 GPA in business. Womack finished his Bulldog career with 10 wins as a senior, including eight at the No. 3 position in singles play.

Lukomski, a native of Renton Wash., earned a 3.84 GPA in history. He competed for the Zags in the fall season.
