Third Annual Tee-Off for Tennis Raises $25,000

Moraga, CA - The 3rd Annual Saint Mary's College Tee-Off For Tennis Tournament, held at the Crow Canyon Country Club in San Ramon, CA. was a huge success as the event raised more than $25,000 for the men's and women's tennis programs.

Over 90 golfers turned out for event on Monday, with many taking home prizes for their fantastic play. Carol Papke and Jeff Gall won the Female/Male longest drive competition. Tennis alumns Richie Thompson '01, Arturo Planell '01, Kyle Timmins `01, and Arvind Stokes '01 made up the winning team with a score of 47 on the day. Their first place victory secured a complimentary pass into next year's tourney.

Joel Drucker, a writer and television commentator who is known as one of the top tennis essayists in the country served as the keynote speaker for the event. He entertained the crowd with stories of the tennis greats he's covered over the years including, Jimmy Conners, Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi. He finished his speech with a question and answer session, which certainly livened up the crowd generating many laughs.
