Malibu, Calif. - One doubles match remains, while the singles semifinals are set after the fourth day of competition at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Western Region (South) Men's Regional Championships at Pepperdine's Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
The championship's biggest upset came in the singles quarterfinal match between Pepperdine's eighth-seeded Andre Begemann and the top seed Benjamin Kohlloeffel of UCLA. The Wave defeated Kohlloeffel in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) and will face No. 4 seed Chris Groh of San Diego State in an 11:30 a.m. semifinal match.
Tomorrow's other semifinal match will see the No. 2 seed take on the No. 3 seed in UCLA's Chris Surapol and USC's Jamil Al-Agba, respectively.
After yesterday's 8-5 come-from-behind quarterfinal victory, top seed Altmann and Begemann of Pepperdine fell in the semifinals to UCLA's Mathieu Dehaine and Jeremy Drean 8-6. The UCLA duo will face teammates and No. 2 seed Kohlloeffel and Surapol in the doubles final set for 10 a.m. tomorrow.
The final match for singles is scheduled for Monday at noon.
