Stanford, CA - Saint Mary's junior Joel Kusnierz had one of the strongest showing in the men's tennis program's history at the ITA Regional held at Stanford over the weekend. Kusnierz lost in the quarterfinals to the fourth ranked player, ending a tremendous run through a strong field.
Kusnierz started the tournament with a 7-5, 7-6 (4) victory in the Round of 128, before winning 6-0, 6-4 over Chizever from Cal in the Round of 64.
The junior transfer then beat the ninth ranked player in Stanford's Muller 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 in the Round of 32. Kusnierz then beat Washington's Chu, the eighth ranked player 6-2, 6-4, in the Round of 16, making it to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals Kusnierz lost a hard fought match 6-4, 6-4 to the fourth ranked player.
Kusnierz also played strong in doubles, teaming up with Adam Fauvre. The doubles team also reached the Round of 16, before falling 8-6 to the University of Washington's team.
